Privacy Policy

Last updated October 7, 2026

theClef (previously called theGigList) is made by BenchFocus LLC ("we", "us"), an Arizona company. This policy explains what theClef does with your information. The short version: your setlists and charts stay on your band's own devices. Questions: support@benchfocus.com.

theClef works on your local network. Your band's devices connect to each other directly over the same Wi‑Fi. Setlists, charts, notes and the live song position travel between your devices and are never sent to our servers.

What stays on your devices

We don't have access to any of this. Back it up yourself if it matters to you; deleting the app deletes it from that device.

Local network access

To find and connect to your bandmates' devices, theClef asks your operating system for permission to use the local network. It only talks to other devices running theClef on that network. You can turn this permission off in your system settings, but the band won't stay in sync without it.

Purchases and subscriptions

Some features, such as additional parts or charts, are paid, as a one-time purchase or a subscription. Payments are handled by the store or payment provider shown when you buy; we never see or store your full card number. To deliver what you bought, we (or that provider) keep a record of the purchase: what was bought, when, its status, and a transaction or license identifier, plus an email address if one is needed for a receipt or to restore purchases. We use that record only to provide and support your purchase, meet tax and accounting rules, and prevent fraud.

This website and downloads

When you visit benchfocus.com or download theClef, our server keeps basic logs (such as IP address, browser and time of request) for security and troubleshooting, for a limited time. The site loads fonts from Google Fonts, which receives your IP address when it serves them. We don't use advertising or tracking cookies.

What we don't do

We may disclose information we do hold (such as purchase records) if the law requires it, or to protect the rights and safety of our users or the service.

Children

theClef is not directed at children under 13. Younger musicians should use it with a parent or guardian, who makes any purchases.

Your choices and rights

Your content lives on your devices, so you control it directly. For anything we hold, such as a purchase record, you can email us to request a copy, a correction, or deletion (we may need to keep some records for tax or legal reasons). Depending on where you live, you may have additional rights under local law, and we'll honor them.

Security

Keep the band on a network you trust: anyone on the same network who is running theClef may be able to see shared sessions if you let them join. We work to keep the app and our systems secure, and will notify affected users of a breach as required by law.

Changes

If we make significant changes, we'll update the date above and note them on this page.
